About Jeanine Lorusso

For almost 20 years, I built a career in biotechnology as an R&D researcher, but a dog entered my life that changed everything.  I was compelled to learn more about his increasingly aggressive behavior, but I didn’t realize at the time how it would profoundly impact my life and alter my course.

A woman at a local park recommended “The Other End of the Leash” by Patricia McConnell, and I began to read about dogs and the behavioral sciences, and that was it, I needed to learn more. I chose to pursue an education studying Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with a focus on canines. While completing a program for Canine Behavior Analysis and Counseling at American College of Applied Science, I spent 2 years volunteering as a Behavior Assistant at Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society in Springfield, MA.  At Dakin, I gained experience with behavior evaluations, admissions, assisting in training classes, and developing/implementing behavior intervention plans.  Shortly after, I joined Baypath Humane Society as the Director of Dog Programs, and this rewarding role continues to challenge me in endless ways.  Through implementing a foster program and increasing the scope of the volunteer program, I have provided practical and functional information for a variety of behavioral challenges in diverse settings.  I also give behavior consulting support to families both pre and post adoption to help address known and unanticipated behavior concerns. Additionally, through my involvement with “Animatch” (a program of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition), I have gained valuable experience with observing, learning and teaching a standardized behavior evaluation to help facilitate adoptions across Massachusetts.

As B.F. Skinner stated “behavior is lawful”.  This we can hang our hats on!  The principles of behavior have been well studied and continues to be a fascinating area of research.  Through my canine behavior consulting services, I wish to apply my continuing knowledge of animal behavior studies and my proven, practical ability to help both families and organizations set their dogs up for success!

My approach is simple: provide humane, effective, scientifically-backed plans and information to families and animal welfare organizations to increase the quality of life for our fellow canines.
